Does the airport transfer that comes with the BritRail London Plus Pass count as a day of travel on the pass?

The Britrail London Plus Pass, includes two rides on the airport express trains (Heathrow, Gatwick or Stanstead.) Does the airport transfer count as a day of travel, or are they seperate?

    Hello,

Unlike the other BritRail Passes (i.e. the BritRail Pass and the BritRail England Pass), an airport transfer would not use up a day of travel on a BritRail London Plus Pass.

The airport transfers are issued as 2 separate one-way coupons with any purchase of the BritRail London Plus Pass. These airport transfers can be used on either the Heathrow Express, Gatwick Express, or Stansted Express.

The Heathrow Express operates between the Heathrow Airport and the Paddington station in London. The Heathrow Express departs once every 15 minutes and takes about 15 minutes from terminals 1, 2 and 3 to Paddington and 23 minutes from terminal 5 to Paddington.

The Gatwick Express operates between the Gatwick Airport and the Victoria station in London. The Gatwick Express departs every 15 minutes, and the ride takes about 30 minutes in duration.

The Stansted Express operates between the Stansted Airport and either the Tottenham Hale station or the Liverpool Street station in London. The Stansted Express departs every 15 minutes and the ride takes about 30 minutes to or from the Tottenham Hale station and 40-45 minutes to or from the Liverpool Street station.

Update: As of January 1st, an airport transfer on the Heathrow, Gatwick, or Stansted Express trains would require use of a travel day on the BritRail London Plus Pass, just like with the other BritRail Passes.

  • Your website still says that these coupons are provided. I ordered BritRail passes based on your website information. I received my BritRail London Plus Passes today without coupons. Please explain.

    • 'not be an issue'? We arrive after a long flight in the morning. Not a good day for a 'long' trip. On the departure day we have a morning flight so again not a good use of the pass. Using the pass for the Heathrow Express would 'waste' two of three days.

      Hi David,

I'm sorry if my post wasn't more clear. I didn't say that it's not an issue, I said that "separate coupons would not be issued", as in they (the coupons) are no longer provided.

While it is true that our site says the airport transfers are still issued as separate coupons, it does immediately follow that an airport transfer "does require a travel day on your pass".

If you don't wish to expend a day of travel on your pass for your transfer from the airport, you can purchase separate Heathrow Express tickets. Separate tickets for the Heathrow Express can be purchased here: http://www.raileurope.com/activities/heathrow-express/index.html.

We hope to have the statement about the transfers being issued as separate coupons changed as soon as possible and appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
