If I have a Eurail Global Pass, would I still have to pay full price to take the Golden Pass train?

If you hold a Global Pass for 10 days over 2 months and you want to travel on the Golden Pass train from Montreaux to Lucerne in Switzerland - do you still pay full price for the Golden Pass train? or is there a reduction because of the Global Pass?

    Hi Janice,

Any rail pass that includes Switzerland (including the Eurail Global Pass) does cover the ticket costs for the GoldenPass. The GoldenPass route from Montreux to Lucerne would just involve changing trains twice along the way; once in Zweisimmen and then once in Interlaken.

Actual seat reservations would be a supplementary cost to the rail pass. On the GoldenPass route, it is really only advisable to have reservations on the trains between Montreux and Zweisimmen. Reservations aren't really necessary on the trains from Zweisimmen to Interlaken and the trains from Interlaken to Lucerne.

For travel with a rail pass, you would purchase reservations by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on our homepage, entering the cities, and indicating the type of rail pass you'll be traveling with, when prompted. If you decide to purchase reservations for the entire route of the GoldenPass, you would just break up your search once in Interlaken. Therefore, you would do one search for the segment from Montreux to Interlaken and another search for the segment from Interlaken to Lucerne. Otherwise, you can just purchase reservations for the segment from Montreux to Zweisimmen, and then the rail pass is all you would need to board the train from Zweisimmen to Interlaken and the train from Interlaken to Lucerne.

For planning purposes, you can just check schedules for any of the segments you don't make reservations for by entering the cities after clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage and not indicating that you'll be traveling with a rail pass.

Generally, the GoldenPass trains can be booked once within 90 days of an intended date of departure.
