Barcelona to Marbella with stopover in Valencia via train, is this possible?

My wife and I are planning trip to Spain in October. We are landing in Barcelona and wanted to head south along the coast, spending one day in Valencia before we head to Marbella where we are meeting other friends for 6 days. They will have a car so we are planning on visiting Gibraltar, Seville, Ronda, etc. We will head back to barcelona for return flight to US. My question is are there train directly from Valencia to Marbella/Malaga without having to go to interior?

    Hi Victor,

Marbella does not have a rail station. To get to Marbella, you would have to take a bus from Malaga. Buses from Malaga to Marbella take about 45 minutes. To take the bus, you would just pay locally.

Rail connections from Valencia to Malaga do go inland, taking about 4.5 hours in duration and involving one train change in either Cordoba or Madrid along the way.

The trains on these routes are AVE high-speed trains.

From Valencia to Barcelona, there are direct Euromed trains.

You would check schedules and purchase tickets by searching a route under 'BOOK TRAIN TICKETS' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com.

Generally, trains in Spain can only be booked once within 90 days of an intended departure date.
