BENELUX and Germany pass with reservations vs. individual tickets. Trying to find reservation cost from Amsterdam to Kaiserslautern

I have two family members coming to visit me in Germany (US citizens). They are landing in Amsterdam and then taking the train to the Centraal station to see Amsterdam before heading to Kaiserslautern, Germany. They also plan on using the train a couple days in Germany while they're visiting.

What is the cost of a reservation from the Amsterdam to Kaiserslautern? I tried looking up the fares, but it didn't have the prices available. They haven't purchased the pass yet because we aren't sure how much reservations cost in addition to the pass.

    Hello KC,

A connection from Amsterdam to Kaiserslautern would involve one train change in either Frankfurt or Mannheim along the way.

To view the reservation costs, you would piece together the connection by doing a separate search for each segment of the trip under 'Book a Reservation for Your Pass' on our website. Therefore, you would do one search for trains from Amsterdam to Frankfurt and then another search for connecting trains from Frankfurt to Kaiserslautern. Reservations are highly recommended on trains from Amsterdam to Frankfurt and trains from Frankfurt to Kaiserslautern. In fact, reservations are required on the trains from Frankfurt to Kaiserslautern that have a 4 digit train number that begins with a '9'.

Trains from Amsterdam to Mannheim will require reservations, however reservations are not even accepted on the connecting trains from Mannheim to Kaiserslautern, so the rail pass is all you would need to board. For planning purposes, you can just view the schedules for such non-reservable trains by entering the cities under 'Check Fares and Schedules' on the homepage of our website and clicking the option to 'Check Schedules'.

Reservable trains in this part of Europe can be reserved within 90 days of an intended date of departure.

While you would generally be able to check reservation costs under 'Book a Reservation for Your Pass', I just noticed that the trains from Frankfurt to Kaiserslautern are not able to be viewed or booked there at this time. Therefore, to inquire about the reservation cost for this portion of the route you would call us at 1-800-622-8600.

When you do the search for this segment on our website, you may see an error message where the cost would otherwise display that says "the passholder fares are unavailable or sold out at this time". You can disregard this error message as it is likely that the seats are still available for the date and time you are searching. We apologize for any confusion, and we hope to get this fixed as soon as possible.
