Bikes from Barcelona to Valencia?

Is it possible to bring fully assembled bikes on a train from Barcelona to Valencia? If so, which type and how do I distinguish that train by name?

    Hi Barb,

In Spain, fully assembled bicycles are only allowed on board MD (Media Distancia) and other regional trains. With that said, there may be a limit of 2 bikes per train, so it always best to check locally. Also, the cost to take an assembled bike on board is €3.

Most trains from Barcelona to Valencia are EuroMed trains on which fully assembled bikes would not be allowed. However, there are a couple MD trains on this route, as well as a regional train. If you must keep your bike assembled, then you would have to take one of these trains.

From Barcelona to Valencia, only the EuroMed trains would be able to be booked on our website. To book an MD or regional train on this route, you would have to call us. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600. Our current hours are 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM CT Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM CT on Saturdays.

  • Thanks Jeff. Is that the case with San Sebastián to Madrid and Santiago del Compostela?

It is our understanding that such trains accept special bike cases that are more like bags but not the hard cases or boxes. These are not provided by the train company. The bike bag is something you would have to purchase beforehand.
