booking did not exist

I recently had a terrible experience with Rail Europe. I made a booking for a train in France but was unable to collect the ticket from the machines at the station. I then went tot the ticket office and was told the booking did not exist.

As my train was about to depart I had purchase additional train tickets at the cost of €500 plus!!!

Now there seems no way to try and claim a refund from the website. This is a terrible service. Can anyone suggest how I try and get refunded for this ticket that never actually existed!?
