    Hi Filip,

As of last year, international rail travel between Greece and surrounding countries has been suspended indefinitely. For travel from Bucharest to Thessaloniki, you would take a train to Sofia, where you would switch to a bus that goes to Thessaloniki. Tickets for the bus are only able to be purchased locally in Europe.

You can purchase tickets for the day train from Bucharest to Sofia under 'Check Fares and Schedules' on the homepage of our website; however, the overnight train from Bucharest to Sofia is currently not able to be purchased there. If you would like to purchase tickets for the night train from Bucharest to Sofia, then you would call us at 1-800-622-8600. Our current hours are 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM ET Monday to Friday and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET on Saturday. You would also have to call us if you wish to inquire about schedules for the bus from Sofia to Thessaloniki.

  • Hello Rail Europe,

With the overnight train from Bucharest to Sofia, does it still stop in Russe for approximately 8 hours?

    Update:

The rail line Thessaloniki and Sofia and the rail line between Thessaloniki and Belgrade have both recently been reintroduced. Also, the overnight train from Bucharest to Sofia is still operating.
