Can I take my bike from Montreux to St. Margrethen?

I can not reserve a place with Swiss rail for my bike. Can I just buy a ticket at the rail station in Montreux?

    Hi Jack,

Fully assembled bicycles are allowed on board the vast majority of trains in Switzerland. Before taking your bike on board a train in Switzerland, you would just have to purchase a 'day pass' for it at the station.

A connection from Montreux to St Margrethen takes just under 4.5 hours in duration and involves 2 train changes along the way; once in Lausanne and then once in St Gallen. Rest assured, assembled bikes are allowed on board each of the trains; just be sure to purchase the 'day pass' at the station.

For a trip from Montreux to St Margrethen, tickets can be purchased by searching the route under 'Find Train Tickets' on www.raileurope.com. The full route will display if you do a search from Montreux to St Margrethen. Otherwise, if you wish, you can piece together the connection by doing a separate search for each segment (i.e. one search for trains from Montreux to Lausanne, another search for connecting trains from Lausanne to St Gallen, and another search for connecting trains from St Gallen to St Margrethen).
