    Hi Karin,

In Spain, only dogs under 10kg are allowed on board trains, and they would have to be transported in a closed pet carrier (max 60cm x 35cm x 35cm). However, only one dog would be allowed per passenger.

A ticket for a dog would have to be purchased locally at the station. The price of the ticket would be 25% off the local price for a 2nd class ticket (even if you travel in 1st class). Larger dogs are not allowed at all on trains in Spain.

You would purchase tickets for a train from Seville to Barcelona (high-speed 'AVE' trains) by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage and entering the cities. Generally, trains in Spain can be booked within 60 to 90 days of an intended date of departure.

    • Hi Jeff, thank you so much for all of your answers. I've been reading every one of them! THANK YOU! Another question, what is Europes status on psychiatric assist service dogs? And do I need to bring documentation to the train station for this? Second, once in a sleeping compartment that is only us, for city night line for example, can he go out of a carrier once inside the sleeping compartment? Thank you again- you really are helping a ton.

      Hi Colleen.

Yes, you would be able to take your dog on the board; however, you would have to book a private compartment to accommodate your party only.

Once inside the sleeping compartment, you can let your dog outside of the carrier.

If you provide some form of documentation, it is possible that they won't charge you a ticket for your dog. Otherwise, they may require that you purchase a ticket for your dog locally at the station. Generally, the price of a ticket for a dog would be 50% off the local price of a ticket.
