Do we need to book reservations from Seville to Barcelona via Valencia?

hello, my wife and I are travelling in Europe in September 2018, Spain, France and Italy. If we are travelling from Seville Spain, via Valencia to Barcelona, would we need to book in advance the High Speed train, there seem to be a number of trains each day and we are hoping not to be tied down to a timetable. Thanks to anyone who might respond. To go even further, we will travel from Madrid to Seville, to Barcelona, Marseille, Nice, Monte Carlo, Genova, Pisa, Livorno, Rome, Florence, Bologna, Venice, Milan, Torino, and then on to Paris to fly home. We plan to buy Select Pass, so I have a lot of questions, but this first one would help me start the itinerary.Dave

    Hi Dave,

Trains from Seville to Valencia and Valencia to Barcelona are high-speed trains that do require reservations. For travel with a rail pass, you would purchase reservations by searching a route on our homepage (www.raileurope.com), checking the box that says ‘I have a rail pass’, and then indicating the type of rail pass with which you'll be traveling (i.e. a ‘Eurail Select Pass 3 Countries’). Generally, trains in Spain can only be reserved within 90 days of an intended departure date.

Trains from Seville to Valencia are AVE high-speed trains. Trains from Valencia to Barcelona are Euromed high-speed trains.

For the 3 country option of the Eurail Select Pass, you would click here: http://www.raileurope.com/pass/eurail-select-pass-3-countries-8037

  • Thanks Jeff, this is great help. Over the next couple of months I will probably post a few more specific questions as we prepare for our trip. I wonder if your able to comment on our plans. We are 60yrs old, fairly good shape, we`ve never been to Europe, we`re Canadian. We thinking 21 days to travel from Madrid, across the Mediterranean coast of France into Italy, then to Venice and across to Torino, and then on the Paris for a return flight home. We walk daily a 5km route in the small town here where we live, so we`re not worried about walking extended times, but perhaps the Eurorail pass concept might a be a little to much, considering number of stops and distances. I apologise I Know my query is vague, but we`re trying to communicate with someone who may know what we might be up against.

    Dave
