Why am I not able to get Madrid-Valencia & Valencia-Barcelona tickets for June?

I'll be using the AVE trains from Madrid (06/15/2015) to Valencia, and from Valencia (06/19/2015) to Barcelona. From Barcelona (06/25/2015 back to Madrid, BUT I 'll also need a city pass for Valencia, and for Barcelona, if available. HOWEVER, I am two months and two days from using the AVE from Madrid and I CANNOT GET THESE PASSES, WHY? I cannot wait longer as I have to travel locally in the next 2 weeks, and want to have all arrangements for Spain ready and paid for. What can be done?

    Hi Aracelly,

Generally, trains in Spain can be booked once within 60 to 90 days of an intended date of departure. However, this is the time of year when the annual 'Summer Schedule Changes' occur with some of the rail networks in Europe (including the national rail network of Spain). As a result of the Summer Schedule Changes, the national rail network of Spain has not enabled many of their trains to be booked for dates after June 13th, including trains along both of the requested routes.

In the meantime, you can just enter a date prior to June 13th to get an idea of the ticket costs and view schedules when searching the route on our site.

We expect the schedules for trains operating after June 13th to be released some time by mid-May at the latest (but hopefully before then), at which point you would be able to purchase the tickets. To see when they'll be able to be booked, I would just recommend checking the routes on our website periodically.

From Madrid to Valencia, there are high-speed 'AVE' or 'Alvia' trains.

From Valencia to Barcelona, there are 'EuroMed' or 'Alvia' trains.

For your stay in Barcelona, there is the 'Barcelona Card'. You would purchase the Barcelona Card here: http://www.raileurope.com/activities/barcelona-card/index.html.

The Barcelona Card covers travel on the Barcelona Metro, city and suburban FGC trains, city and suburban RENFE trains in 'zone 1' (including the trains between the city of Barcelona and the El Prat Airport), city buses, and trams.

The Barcelona Card also allows for free entry to select museums and over 70 discounts to certain museums and venues around the city.

For your time in Valencia, there is the 'Valencia Tourist Card'. You would purchase the Valencia Tourist Card here: http://www.raileurope.com/activities/valencia-tourist-card/index.html.

The Valencia Tourist Card covers public buses and trams around the city, as well as free or discounted entry to dozens of museums and attractions.

  • I’m now sure waiting is best.
According to your reply I will purchase the Barcelona and Valencia Cards the same day I get confirmation of the train schedules for Madrid-Valencia, Valencia-Barcelona and Barcelona-Madrid. I'll not get stacked with different dates in my reservations. Hopefully, other customers from other countries/cities will not get ahead of me, reserving before. And, most important I hope prices will be the same as quoted today.
    Thank you for your reply!

It is the case that all fares and availability are subject to change. Therefore, it is recommended that any tickets be purchased as soon as it becomes possible, prior to departing for Europe.

The Barcelona Card and Valencia Tourist Card are able to be purchased at this time. We hope the Madrid-Valencia and Valencia-Barcelona tickets become able to be purchased by mid-May at the latest.
