The country of residence refers to the issuing country of your passport. If you are living in another country and have a resident alien card/alien registration card (ex: a U.S. Green Card), you may use that country when purchasing rail tickets and passes. Please note, that when validating the passes, your passport and resident alien card will be required. Other forms of visas (work visa, student visa, etc) are not eligible at the time of validation.

We are travelling from Barcelona to Bilbao, Bilbao to Holland (Purmerend), Holland to Belgium, Belgium to France (Cusset), France to Spain (Valencia), Spain to Germany (Cologne), Germany to Spain over a period of one month. Can you suggest any rail options for a trip such as this? Thankyou, David Joseph

  • Hello,

    I would have three questions.

I live in Strasbourg (France) and I plan to visit Geneva (Swizerland), Vienna (Austria) and Berlin (Germany) next month.

I think that the best deal would be to buy a Eurail Select Pass. Can you tell me:
    1. If there is another pass that would be less expansive?
    2. If it is possible to buy the pass in a train station
    3. If I have to take a pass for 3 or 4 countries (does the country of departure accompt for a country)?

    Thank you a lot!

However, when I try to buy them, it asks for my "country" in personal information field. There is no "Turkey" option in the list. So I can't finish my transaction. What can I do? Should I choose a different country? If yes, won't it cause a problem when boarding the train? I am sure they will check my passport.

    Hi, Arvind from India.
Have a query and will be thankful for responses.
Am planning to buy a European East Pass (5 days in a month). Will be travelling from Prague to Budapest to Zell am See and a few more places in Austria.

    The query is this:
I leave from Prague to Budapest by a direct train leaving 00 .05 hrs of 9th June. The same night, I take a train leaving Budapest (21.10pm)to Zell Am See (6.22 am)with a change in Salzburg (3 am)....will this count as one travel day or two?

The issue is, within Austria, with Zell Am See as base, we plan to travel to Salzburg, Innsbruck, Isgyl and Vienna on separate days....that alone requires 4 travel days. In which case, if the first leg from Prague to Budapest to Zell is counted as two travel days, then we will have to cut short our travel within Austria which we wanted to cover well...

    • Jeff (Official Rep) November 19, 2012 16:24
      Hi Sarah,

If you are a French citizen and do not have a U.S. green card, then you would not be able to purchase the France Rail Pass. Instead, you would purchase regular point-to-point tickets for your travels. The country of residence doesn't matter when purchasing point-to-point tickets. You can purchase tickets and check schedules by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com.

  • I am a US citizen studying in Denmark and have a residence permit in Denmark. Can I purchase a raileurope ticket for France? Is raileurope different from Eurail?
    • Jeff (Official Rep) November 21, 2012 22:31
      Hi Casey,

Rail Europe is the North American-based rail ticket supplier for the various national rail networks and train operators of Europe. While most of our tickets and passes are physical documents that would have to be shipped to you, tickets for many trains operating within France are able to be issued as e-tickets or print-at-home tickets, in which case you would still be able to purchase tickets from Denmark.

If tickets for a particular train are able to be issued as e-tickets or print-at-home tickets, then the option would display for you at Step 1 of the checkout process, which is the 'Delivery' screen. Tickets classified as e-tickets would be printed out from a kiosk in the station prior to departure, while print-at-home tickets would have to be printed elsewhere prior to going to the station.

If you happen to need a ticket that isn't offered electronically or if you would like to purchase a rail pass (which are all issued as physical documents), you can arrange for the documents to be shipped to you at an address there in Denmark. However, delivery to an international address is not able to be arranged on our website. To arrange for an order to be delivered to you at an address in Europe, you would call us at 1-800-622-8600 or 1-847-916-1028. Our current hours are 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM ET Monday to Friday.

The term 'Eurail' just refers to a brand of rail passes that we sell as the North American supplier.

Poland not being on any select pass has disturbed my initial plans.
What do you think I should do? Should I get a France+BeNeLux regional pass plus a Germany+Poland regional pass, or a 3 country pass and a point-to-point Berlin-Cracow?
There is a slight possibility that I will also have to go through Spain (I live in South America, most of the times a ticket to Paris is WAY more expensive than a ticket to Madrid or Rome).

I am currently in Uganda waiting for transit tomorrow to arrive in Amsterdam around 5:30am on the 23rd. I also tried the Deustche Bahn website, but they cannot deliver the tickets, nor can the Dutch railway system either. Is it possible to set up a booking now without access to a hotline number? This is urgent and I cannot call the hotline due to being in this location unless you have a number for calls outside of North America. Thank you for your time.

  • Hi, we are a family living in Vietnam for 6 years and have a temporary residence card in Vietnam, we will be travelling to Europe end of this month.
My husband is a Chinese passport holder and 4 of us are Philippines passport.
I tried to book a rail pass for the family but China is not included in the Asean countries together with the Philippines.
Please help us book as a family? or maybe we can just buy point to point tickets??? but would have been better if we could purchase it ahead of time together as a family.
    Need help please?

  • Hi, I need to send my reservation to my home in New Zealand and it isn't an option how do I go about reserving tickets? Is it easier to just ring? And then, who do I ring to reserve a seat.
    Thank you!

      Hi Megan,

This page is for the United States-based seller of European tickets and passes to North American countries. We are generally not able to sell to residents of countries outside of North America, due to local restrictions. Residents of countries outside of North America would have to book through an affiliated agent in their own country or region. If you are from New Zealand, you would book through an agent there. The website you would refer to is http://www.raileurope.co.nz/.

  • I'm a resident of the US currently in Lisbon, Portugal for a writing conference. I'll be traveling through Spain at the end of the month and wanted to get a Spain Eurail pass for 3 days. Is still possible to get one even though I'm already in Europe?

Also, can I use it for AVE trains as well as regular trains?

    Thanks,
    Steven

  • Hi Steven,

Since you are already in Europe the best option would be to purchase the Renfe Spain Pass. As this is an electronic pass, we would then not have to send the physical pass to you.

You can click or copy and paste the following link into your browser to learn more about the Renfe Spain Passes. http://www.raileurope.com/rail-ticket...

Please note that reservations are required, however, you do not need to book them at this time. Once the pass has been booked an email will be sent to you on how to book your reservations.

    Thank you,
    Jen
