If our flight is delayed can we use our ticket to take next train?

If we purchase our ticket now what happens if our flight gets delayed? Do we just catch the next available train?

    Hi Tracy,

If a particular train requires reservations, then the reservation is automatically included with any ticket purchase for that train, and the ticket would generally not be able to be used for any train other than the train the ticket was booked for.

If a particular train does not accept or require reservations, then we would issue what is called an 'open ticket' for that route, which would not even reflect actual departure and arrival times (even though you would still be selecting a specific train on our website). Open tickets are valid to take any single train operating between the cities listed on the ticket for a 1 month time period beginning on the date you performed your search for when you placed your order. There is open seating on such trains, since they are trains that do not accept reservations.

You can view whether or not a reservation is included for a particular train by clicking on the 'Select' link listed with the fares when you pull up the initial results of your schedule search. For most trains that require reservations , tickets called 'combined tickets' are sold, meaning the reservation is included in the same document as the ticket, and the ticket would not be able to be used for any other train. For such trains, it would mention the reservation under the one of the bullet-points where it says '1st Class Seat' or '2nd Class Seat' right after clicking 'Select' for a fare.

For some trains that require reservations, an open ticket would be sold, like the open ticket mentioned above; however, a reservation would also be issued as a separate document, along with the open ticket. In this case, if you miss the train you book initially on our website, you would lose the reservation portion, but the ticket portion would still be valid for you to take a later train (any single train operating between the cities listed on the ticket for a 1 month time period beginning on the date you performed your search for when you placed your order).

You can tell such a train under 'Ticket Flexibility' after you click on 'Select' for a particular fare. If it lists the ticket and the reservation separately under 'Ticket Flexibility' (with the ticket being 85% refundable and the reservation being non-refundable and non-exchangeable), then you would know an open ticket (valid for use on a later train) and a reservation (not valid for a later train) would be issued as separate documents.

If you would like to verify a particular route, then please don't hesitate to reply letting us know the route you will be traveling.
