Do I have to purchase a rail pass in my home country?

I live in the U.S. and will be spending 2 months in Denmark this summer. Can I purchase a Eurail Select Pass while in Denmark. I saw a comment on this site that said we had to purchase in our home country. Please clarify. Thanks

    Hi Maureen,

Eurail Passes are generally not available to be purchased once in Europe. For the Eurail Select Pass, you would purchase it in advance, before leaving for Europe.

Any order placed on our website can take 24 to 48 hours to be processed in addition to the time it takes to ship the documents, which would be an additional 2 to 3 business days if the option of standard delivery is chosen or an additional 1 business day if the option of express delivery is chosen. If you ever wish to bypass the 24-48 hour processing time to ensure your documents are shipped out today for overnight delivery, you would have to call us to place your order. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600. Our current hours are 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM CT Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM CT on Saturdays. The last shipment on any given weekday leaves our office at 5:30 PM CT.

  • Thank you for a speedy reply. Just two more question:
    1. How is the two month period calculated? If I buy in June, but don't travel until August, can I use it in August and September?

    2. If I use up the 5 day and doing additional traveling, can I purchase another Eurail pass while I'm in Denmark or would I be restricted as in the case of your answer to my original question?

    Thanks.

      Hi Maureen,

1.) If you were to begin using a 2-month pass on August 12th, then the pass would be valid until October 11th at midnight. This is how it works no matter how many days comprise of the month(s) during which a passenger intends to begin their travel.

2.) I'm sorry, it would not be possible to purchase an additional rail pass after you're in Europe, unless you have somewhere to have it shipped to you from the U.S. You would also need to be able to wait for delivery. Shipping to an address in Europe can take 3 to 5 business days. At that point, depending on what the specific trips are, it would probably be best just to purchase regular tickets to cover an additional travel you intend on doing.
