Dusseldorf to Ramstain Air Base

My wife and I will be arriving to Dusseldorf by air from Oslo, Norway July 7 about 4 PM. We will need to stay over and the next day go by train to Ramstein.

Could you please advise a hotel to stay, how to get from the airport to the hotel, how to get from the hotel to the train station the following day and what train to take to Ramstein about mid morning?

Thank you for your question, John.

We do happen to provide a link on our website from where you can book hotels in Europe. You would just click on 'Hotels' from our homepage, www.raileurope.com. The direct link to book hotels is: http://www.raileurope.com/us/hotel/hotel_search.htm.

You would have to contact a hotel directly if you wish to inquire about its proximity to any specific rail stations or any additional details about their property.

There are short, regional trains that will take you from the Dusseldorf Airport into the city of Dusseldorf. The ride from the airport into the city only takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Tickets for the regional trains between the airport and the city can only be purchased locally upon arrival.

The most feasible connections from Dusseldorf to Ramstein take about 3.5 to 4 hours in duration and involve 3 train changes en route; once in Cologne, once in Mannheim, and then once in Landstuhl.

The trains from Landstuhl to Ramstein are regional trains for which tickets can only be purchased locally in Germany. The ride from Landstuhl to Ramstein only takes about 5 minutes.

You would check schedules and purchase tickets for the remaining part of the connection by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage and doing a separate search for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search for trains from Dusseldorf to Cologne (regional trains, 'EuroCity' trains, 'InterCity' trains, and high-speed 'InterCity Express' trains), another search for connecting trains from Cologne to Mannheim (high-speed 'InterCity Express' trains), and another search for connecting trains from Mannheim to Landstuhl.

To view the most possible options, you would want to choose the specific hour for each set of departures you wish to view (i.e. '10 am' for trains that depart during the 10 o'clock hour, '11 am' for trains that depart during the 11 o'clock hour, etc). Ideally, you would be able to click the 'Later Trains' button that appears at the bottom of the list of schedules that display. However, there may currently be an error on our site that prevents more trains from displaying when you do this.

It may be the case that the direct trains from Mannheim to Landstuhl are also currently only able to be purchased locally in Germany, in which case nothing would display when you do your search for this segment. You might also try breaking up your search only once in Cologne. Therefore, you would do one search for trains from Dusseldorf to Cologne and then another search for the part of the connection from Cologne to Landstuhl (which would hopefully pull up results for options with one train change in Mannheim in between).
