Eurail Pass or Swiss Pass

We are visiting Switzerland & France. We want to be able to take all swiss trains (Zurich to Interlaken, Interlaken to Bern etc) and then also possibly get discounts on mountain trains like Jungfraouch. Then we will be taking a train to France. Should we get Eurail Pass or get Swiss Pass and then do point to point for France.

    Hello Sushant,

I would definitely recommend a Swiss Travel Pass, as the majority of your train travel will take place in Switzerland. Add a point to point ticket on the end for your single trip to France, I feel this will be the best approach for your itinerary.

  • Hi Dave,

Appreciate the prompt response. What about if we want to take train in Paris to go to sites like Eiffel Tower, Disneyland, Louvre etc? Also, what about a round trip to Amsterdam from Paris?

We visited Switzerland back in 2013 and did Swiss Travel Pass so it makes sense to do that again.

    Thanks,

    Sushant

    Hi Sushant,

The more trips you add, of course the more likely it is a Eurail Pass covering multiple countries will be the better option. However, I always recommend planning your itinerary first and finding the most cost effective product to fit it, rather than the other way around (picking a pass and hoping it fits your plan).

If the majority of your travel is going to take place in Switzerland, I still recommend the Swiss Travel Pass, along with point to point tickets after leaving Switzerland, especially if you book those as far in advance as you can (3-4 months prior).
