With a Eurail Global Pass, are there discounts on the ferry from Athens to Santorini?

Hi! We've bought Global Rail Passes and I was under the impression we could use them to get discounts on ferries. We are travelling from Athens - Santorini one way. Is this possible to use the passes for a discount? I am having trouble finding information, or a way to go about it.Thanks!! Nell

    Hi Nell,

With regard to the ferry from Piraeus (the port of Athens) to Santorini, the Eurail Global Pass only provides for a discount if you've already taken one of the 'Superfast Ferries' that cross the Adriatic from Italy. If you've taken one of the 'Superfast Ferries' from Italy, you would be able to receive a discount of 30% on a ferry from Piraeus to Santorini. I'm sorry; however, the discount is not possible unless done following the crossing from Italy.

If your Eurail Global Pass is a 'consecutive day' pass, the ferry to Santorini would have to be done within a month of your arrival to Greece from Italy. If your Eurail Global Pass is a 'flexipass', the ferry to Santorini would have to be done within the validity period of the pass.

For a list of ferries covered or discounted with the pass and other bonuses, you would refer to the page for the Eurail Global Pass on our website, click 'Travel Bonuses', and then click 'Travel Bonuses in Greece'. For the Eurail Global Pass page, you would click here: https://www.raileurope.com/rail-ticke....

A Eurail Global Pass does cover passage on the 'Superfast Ferries' between Italy and Greece. These ferries run between Bari or Ancona (Italy) and Patras, Igoumenitsa, or Corfu (Greece). If you wish to have an actual sleeping cabin on one of these ferries, a reservation would be required at an additional cost. With a Eurail Pass, reservations for sleeping cabins would have to be made by contacting 'Superfast Ferries' directly. Their website is www.superfast.com. There are also additional surcharges for these ferries. These include a seasonal surcharge in June and September of €10 per person and €20 per person in June and July, port taxes of €7 per person, and a fuel surcharge may also apply.
