    Hi.

I'm sorry, a rail pass would not cover a ferry from Barcelona to Genoa. However, any rail pass that includes both Spain and Italy (such as the 'Eurail Global Pass') would enable you to receive a 20% discount on the ferry passages from Barcelona to Civitavecchia (the port just outside of Rome) or Barcelona to Livorno (the main port for Tuscany). With a pass that includes Spain and Italy, you would also be able to receive a 10% for accommodation supplements on these ferries.

To book this ferry, you would call 'Grimaldi Lines' at (+34) 902 531 333 or (+39) 081 496 444, or else by sending an email to info@grimaldi.napoli.it or reservas@grimalditour.com. To receive the discount, just be sure to mention that you'll be traveling with the Eurail Global Pass.

From Civitavecchia and Livorno, there are direct trains up to Genoa. These trains are high-speed 'Frecciabianca' trains or regular 'InterCity' trains. These trains do require seat reservations in addition to the rail pass. They may also ask that you provide them with the "ticket number" for the pass, which will be reflected just above the bar code on your pass cover.

For travel with a rail pass, you would purchase reservations for a train from Civitavecchia to Genoa or from Livorno to Genoa by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on our homepage (www.raileurope.com), entering the route, and indicating the type of rail pass you'll be traveling with (i.e. a 'Eurail Global Pass'). Generally, these trains can be reserved once within 90 days of an intended date of departure.
