Flexible times available in Civitevacchia station? Our cruise ends at 5 am in Civitavecchia, Italy. We would like to take the train to Monaco. There are 2 morning departures. If we miss the 7:45 train, how can we exchange our tickets to get on the 10:45 train?

    Hi Lyra,

A connection from Civitavecchia to Monaco would take about 8 to 9 hours in duration and involves changing trains once in Genoa along the way. You would purchase tickets by entering a route under 'Find Train Tickets' on our homepage, www.raileurope.com. You would do one search for trains from Civitavecchia to Genoa (Frecciabianca or InterCity trains) and then another search for connecting trains from Genoa to Monaco (Thello trains).

Generally, the most flexible tickets offered for trains from Civitavecchia to Genoa are only exchangeable for a time period of up to 1 hour after the originally booked train's departure. The exchange would have to requested locally at the station within the hour time-frame.

With that said, all tickets for a direct train from Genoa to Monaco currently would be non-exchangeable.

When you pull up the results of a schedule search on our site, you would view a fare's rules and guidelines by clicking on the 'View' button under the cost. After you click 'View' here, a box will expand out underneath. For the exchange policy, you would click 'Read More' next to the options under where it says 'Ticket Flexibility' in this box. The most flexible fares for these trains would be found under the 'Flexible' or 'Fully Flexible' option under 'Ticket Flexibility'.

  • Thank you for your quick response Jeff. Would it be advisable for us to purchase the ticket at the station, the day of our arrival? That way if the ship's disembarkment is late, we can buy tickets for the next train ride? Do you have staff at the station or a kiosk? Or we must purchase the tickets ahead of time? Please let me know your thoughts. We are looking forward to the advantage by rail.

  • Generally, it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance, prior to departing for Europe. However, it depends on your situation given the information I provided above. There is staff at the station.
