I’m confused!

German pass reservation inquiry

I want to reserve a seat from Berlin to Amsterdam. Is this possible to do with the German Rail Pass? I was able to do so in raileurope-world.com, but not raileurope.com... With raileurope.com I get the train information, but a message that says "This train requires travelers with a rail pass to purchase a reservation but we are unable to find reservations that are compatible with your rail pass for this train."

I am now confused whether is it possible or not... please help. Info on the train in question: BERLIN HBF To AMSTERDAM CS - Train 148

    Hi Maria,

The train in question goes from Berlin to the Amsterdam Zuid station or the rail station at the Amsterdam Schipol Airport (Due to construction, this connection would involve changing trains once in Hilversum along the way on certain dates). A German Rail Pass would only cover you as far as the border of Germany and the Netherlands. It would not cover the part of the train once it crosses over into the Netherlands. Therefore, you would purchase a separate point-to-point ticket to cover you from the town of Bad Bentheim to the Amsterdam Schipol Airport station. This doesn't mean you'd get off the train in Bad Bantheim, it's just so you would be covered after you cross the border.

To purchase this open ticket from Bad Bentheim to Amsterdam Schipol Airport, you would have to call us at 1-800-622-8600. Generally, you would be able to purchase actual seat reservations by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on the homepage of our website; however, it is currently not possible to book reservations for the train from Berlin to Amsterdam on our website. Therefore, you would also have to call us in order to purchase the seat reservations.

  • I am still confused. I thought this train arrived at Amsteram Centraal? (hence the Amsterdam CS?)

The schedule I was looking was:
    Dec. 26 2012:

    08:38
    BERLIN HBF

    14:59
    AMSTERDAM CS

If this is not a train that arrives at Amsterdam Centraal, is there an option I could get that does? And if so, does I suppose the booking of the additional portion would still apply? (would that have to be done over the phone as well?)

    Thanks again.

  • I’m better informed.
Ok, that is much clearer. Thank you! Will be calling you then. Last question, do you know how much is this open ticket, approximately?

You're welcome, Maria. I'm sorry, however, we are not able to provide or verify price quotes through this messageboard or through email. However, to get an idea of this ticket cost, you can do a search just from 'Bad Bentheim' to 'Amsterdam Airport' under 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website. While this part of the route does display from such a search on our website, you would still have to call us just to verify that you're purchasing the appropriate ticket.
