Germany & Austria travel visiting Berlin, Munich, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Vienna, and Nuremberg

Our itinerary includes Berlin, Munich, Salzberg, Hallsatt and then Vienna. Including a day visit to Nuremburg on our travels from Berlin to Munich. What is best for those plans

  • Hi Tom,

For that much travel in those countries, your best option would be to purchase the 2 country option of the Eurail Select Pass to include Austria and Germany.

For the Eurail Select Pass, you would click here:

The rail pass will cover ticket costs for trains running 'inter-city' between different cities in the countries included on the pass. When applicable, reservations are a supplementary cost to a rail pass. The cities you mentioned are connected mostly by ICE (InterCity Express) and Railjet trains on which reservations are recommended as a supplement to a rail pass.

For travel with a rail pass, you would purchase reservations by clicking the 'Seat Reservations' tab on our homepage (, entering a route, and indicating the type of rail pass with which you'll be traveling (i.e. a 'Eurail Two Country Select Pass').

Please note, the train station for Hallstatt is across the lake from the actual town. To get into town, there are ferries that take arriving passengers across the lake. These ferries are timed to meet with the train arrivals and departures. The ferry ride into town only takes about 10 or 15 minutes, and there would just be a small fee that you would pay locally.
