  • Hi Tracy.

Rail connections from Munich to the Cinque Terre would take at least 10 or 11 hours in duration and involve at least 2 train changes en route. Most connections from Munich to the Cinque Terre involve changing trains in Verona and then Milan. Otherwise, there are options involving changing trains in Bologna and then Parma.

You can search schedules to any of the 5 towns of the Cinque Terre (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, or Riomaggiore) or La Spezia (the town just south of the Cinque Terre). Generally, Monterosso and La Spezia serve as the main rail hubs.

You would check schedules and purchase tickets by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage (www.raileurope.com) and entering the cities. However, for a trip such as this, you would just have to piece together the connection by doing a separate search for each segment. For example, you would search schedules for a trip from Munich to Monterosso (via Verona and Milan) by doing one search for trains from Munich to Verona, another search for connecting trains from Verona to Milan, and then another search for the segment from Milan to Monterosso.

Trains from Munich to Verona or Munich to Bologna are Brennero EuroCity (EC) trains.

Trains from Verona to Milan are high-speed Frecciabianca trains or regional (Regionale) trains.

Trains from Bologna to Parma are high-speed Frecciabianca trains or regional Regionale or Regionale Veloce) trains.

Trains from Milan to Monterosso or Milan to La Spezia are mostly InterCity trains.

Trains from Parma to the Cinque Terre are regional (Regionale or Regionale Veloce) trains.

Any regional trains in Italy can only be booked within 60 days of an intended date of departure. However, other trains that comprise of these connections can generally be booked once within 90 days of an intended date of departure.
