Getting from Paris CDG Airport to Limoges by train

We arrive at CDG at 6:30 am. We would like to get to Limoges by 13:00, which is when the car rental agency closes. We are spending the night near Orafour. What is the best route to get us to our destinationin time or Is there a more convenient city to train to where we can get a car

    Hi Mugsy.

The closest station to Oradour-sur-Glane is Limoges about 20 to 25 km away. You might just barely be able to make it to Limoges in time, although it would be close. The Paris CDG Airport does have a rail station but there are no direct trains from there to Limoges. Instead, the connection to Limoges would involve commuting into the city of Paris first. Trains from the city of Paris to Limoges depart from the Austerlitz station in Paris.

To commute from the CDG Airport to the Austerlitz station, you would first take Line B of the local RER rail network to the St. Michel stop in Paris. At the St. Michel stop, you would switch to M10 of the Paris Métro, which you would take to the Austerlitz station, from where the direct trains to Limoges depart. In its entirety, the commute from the CDG Airport to the Austerlitz station would take at least an hour in duration. You would pay to ride the RER and the Métro locally before boarding.

You would check schedules and purchase tickets for a train from Paris to Limoges by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage and entering the route. Trains from Paris to Limoges are 'Intercités' trains. Generally, trains in France can be booked once within 90 days of an intended date of departure.

Certain fares offered on these trains are exchangeable locally. Intercités trains from Paris to Limoges may offer rates that are exchangeable up to 2 hours after the train's scheduled departure time if you opt to have the tickets issued as print-at-home tickets or print-at-station tickets. Please note, if you opt to have your tickets issued as paper tickets, these same rates would only be exchangeable before the train's scheduled departure. On these trains, these rates are generally only found under 'Premier' heading for fares when you pull up the results of a schedule search on our site.

You would view a fare's rules and guidelines by clicking on the 'View' button for the fare listed under your preferred class of service for your preferred train. When you click 'View', a box will expand out underneath with the 'Ticket Flexibility' options. The exchangeable fare I described above would generally be found under the 'Flexible' or 'Fully Flexible' option under 'Ticket Flexibility'. To verify, you would click 'Read More' for the 'Flexible' or 'Fully Flexible' option and the fare should be labeled as 'TGV: French Day Train Adult Plus'.

  • Thank you so much. I know we are cutting it close to get to Limoges. How far is Poiters from Oradour. We have reservations at a B & B nearby for the night we arrive, but don't plan to go to Oradour until the following day. What is critical is to be able to pick up the car the day we arrive. Any other thoughts? We don't mind driving a couple of hours to get near the Limoges area. Thanks again.

Hi Mugsy. Poitiers looks to be about 105 km from Oradour. There are actually direct TGV trains to Poitiers right out the Paris CDG Airport. The ride from Paris CDG Airport to Poitiers only takes about 2.5 hours.

You can check schedules and purchase tickets for a train from the Paris CDG Airport to Poitiers by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage and entering the route. When doing a search for trains out of the Paris CDG Airport, you would just type it as 'Paris Airport' in the field for the departure city.
