I’m undecided

Going from Lisbon Portugal to Heibelberg, Germany

How do I book a ticket or even look for availability for a ONE WAY ticket? I am only finding reservations with a return date. I want to go from Lisbon, Portugal to Heidelberg, Germany. I will be flying out of Frankfurt at a later date.

    Hi Judy,

The only real feasible connection straight through from Lisbon to Heidelberg takes about 24.5 hours in duration and involves 3 train changes along the way; once in Hendaye, then in Paris, and then in Mannheim. The train from Lisbon to Hendaye is a direct overnight train.

However, the night train from Lisbon to Hendaye is currently not able to be booked on our website. To book tickets for this particular train and inquire about its schedule and costs, you would have to call us. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600. Our current hours are 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM CT Monday to Friday. Generally, these night trains can be booked once within 90 days of an intended departure date.

In the meantime, you can view schedules and ticket costs for the remaining part of the connection by searching the segments under 'BOOK TRAIN TICKETS' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. For this trip, you would just need to do a separate search for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search for trains from Hendaye to Paris, another search for connecting trains Paris to Mannheim, and then another search for connecting trains from Mannheim to Heidelberg.

You can then do another search for your trip from Heidelberg to Frankfurt or Heidelberg to Frankfurt Airport. Direct trains from Heidelberg to the city of Frankfurt take just under 1 hour. Connections from Heidelberg to the Frankfurt Airport take about an hour in duration and involve changing trains once in Mannheim along the way.

For some trains to display, you would also want to be sure to adjust your departure time to the specific hour for each set of departures you wish to view. For example, if you want to view trains departing during the 2 o'clock hour, adjust your preferred departure time specifically to '2PM' rather than keeping it at '8AM' and clicking the 'Later Trains' button to view more options.

Trains from Hendaye to Paris are TGV high-speed trains. Generally, these trains can only be booked once within 90 days of an intended departure date.

Trains from Paris to Mannheim are TGV Est (France-Germany High Speed) trains. Generally, these trains can be booked once within 90 days of an intended departure date.

From Mannheim to Heidelberg, you would be on a local train. Generally, trains within Germany can be booked up to 180 days in advance of a departure.
