Golden Pass Reservation

Hello,

My sister and I have purchased the 2 for 1 Swiss Pass and want to book a reservation on the Golden Pass route. On your website, it says that the Golden Pass route can go from Luzern to Geneva. That is what we would prefer to do, but are open to any other routes on the Golden Pass that leave Luzern on April 8 (a Sunday). I am having a hard time booking a reservation and/or finding a route from Luzern to Geneva.

Where can I make the reservation for the Golden Pass since I already have a Swiss Pass?

Also, is there anyway to avoid the shipping fee for a Golden Pass Reservation?

Thank you so much!

    Hi Meagan,

The route of the Golden Pass does not go through Geneva, but the Golden Pass does link central Switzerland with Lake Geneva. The entire route covers from Lucerne in central Switzerland to Montreux on the eastern shore of Lake Geneva. From Montreux, you would then be able to continue on to Geneva by taking another train.

There are direct trains from Lucerne to Geneva, but these are not Golden Pass trains, and they do not operate along the Golden Pass route.

The actual Golden Pass route would have you going from Lucerne to Montreux, changing trains once in Interlaken along the way. The first portion of the route from Lucerne to Interlaken does not accept reservations, so your rail pass is all you would need to board. You would just book reservations for the connecting portion from Interlaken to Montreux.

On our website, you would book the reservations for the Golden Pass from Interlaken to Montreux by clicking on 'Book a Reservation for Your Pass' on the homepage. The Golden Pass is popular and sells out very quickly, so we would recommend booking your reservations as soon as possible.

For reference and for planning purposes, you can just view the schedules for the non-reservable portion of the route from Lucerne to Interlaken by entering these cities under 'Check Fares and Schedules' on the homepage of our website and clicking the option to 'Check Schedules'. Trains from Montreux to Geneva also do not accept reservations, so the rail pass is all you would need to board in this case as well. Therefore, you can just view the schedules by following this same procedure.

Since you already placed your order for the rail pass, another shipping and handling fee would be assessed for any subsequent order for reservations booked on our website. The shipping and handling cost is currently only able to be waived for any single order submitted through our website that exceeds $399. If you wish, you can try calling us at 1-800-622-8600 to book the reservations.

  • We have ordered a Swiss Pass (and family card) but need to make reservations for the Golden Pass from Montreux to Interlaken and Interlaken to Luzern. Previous posts have said to click on"make a reservation with your pass" but I cannot seem to find that option. When I go to the Swiss rail website there is an option to make reservations on these trains for 7CHF - I asume this is the price for only the reservation, separate from the ticket price. Is that the best way to reserve seats?

  • Hi, I am looking to travel on the Golden Pass Panoramic train (Montreux-Interlaken-Lucerne) with a Swiss Flexi 1st Class pass. Is there a way to choose our seats on the train? Especially if I am interested in the VIP seats at the front of the train.

    Thank you!

  • Hi,
I have bought a swiss promotion pass (2 for 1). I have some questions please
    1. In Lucerne, I want to do the Golden round trip at Mount Pilatus. Does my pass entitle me to take this journey which comprises Boat ride, Cable car and Cog wheel train? If not, is there any discount for swiss pass holders?

    2. Also, is there any discount for the cable car at Mount Titlis?

    3. I need to travel to Salzburg from Zurich. If i buy the Eurail Austria pass, will I be able to travel from Zurich to Salzburg using my Swiss pass and Eurail Austria pass? If yes, where will my pass be validated and how much do I have to pay for seat reservation? If not, then is there is any discounted price for the ticket for swiss pass holders?

Look forward to your reply. Thanks.

  • Can we go on the Golden Pass Panorama train from Interlaken to Lucern and return for a day trip and use our Eurail Select Pass? If yes, how do we make the booking if we already have our pass? Should we arrange this before leaving Australia or can we book when we arrive in Interlaken as we are not sure what day we wish to travel. Can we make the booking the day before travel or is this too late and we might miss out on a seat?

  • OK it's our first trip to Switzerland and we want to make the most of it....so, we purchased the SwissPass first class for 4 consecutive days.

We will be based in Champel Geneva
We plan to do a cruise on Lake Geneva,
I heard that the cars on the Golden Pass are very hot. What is the difference between taking regular trains and going on the Golden Pass? Will we miss a lot if we don't take it?
Any other great suggestions for day trips from Geneva....we want to go back to base each night.

      Hello,

I described the actual Golden Pass connection between Montreux and Lucerne here:

      http://community.raileurope.com/raile....

Otherwise, there are direct trains from Geneva to Lucerne, and these trains would follow a different route altogether that isn't quite as scenic. These train aren't designated as specialty Swiss scenic trains as the Golden Pass trains are. That being said, these direct trains from Geneva to Lucerne, as well as trains all throughout Switzerland could still be considered very scenic.

There are many places you can go from Geneva. Travel to Lucerne on the Golden Pass or otherwise has already been discussed in previous threads with you, as has travel on the Glacier Express and William Tell scenic trains. I have also suggested Mount Pilatus as a possibility if you do go to Lucerne. You can click on your profile history if you'd like to refer to these threads.

You could also consider going to the Bernese Oberland area (Interlaken/Grindelwald), where you would be able to do the Jungfraujoch mountaintop excursion. For your trek up to Jungfraujoch, you would purchase the 'Jungfraujoch Top of Europe' pass for Swiss Pass holders. You would purchase this pass by clicking here: http://www.raileurope.com/activities/....

Since you would be traveling with a Swiss Pass, you would purchase the 'Grindelwald or Wengen-Jungfraujoch/Swiss Pass' option of the Jungfraujoch Top of Europe pass.

For planning, you can check schedules from Geneva to Interlaken or Grindelwald under 'Check Fares and Schedules' or 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website.
