Honeymoon in Europe

Hi! My husband and I are planning our honeymoon in Europe and plan to be using the rail for most of our travel. Is there some sort of resource (map book, website etc.) that we could purchase to view all of the rail lines we might need to take and determine what passes we will need to buy?

    Hi Megan,

What you purchase for any itinerary would depend on the specific itinerary itself and various other factors. You can browse the various rail passes offered by clicking ‘Rail Passes’ on www.raileurope.com. It is generally the case that all countries being traveled through would have to be accounted for on the rail pass you choose.

You can view a map of the rail lines in Europe here: https://www.raileurope.com/europe-tra.... On this map, you can use the blue bar in the upper left corner to zoom in the countries/cities you need to see. If need be, you can use Google Map or another map to cross-reference.

  • Thank you, Jeff. I've already viewed all of these resources and none of them provide enough detail for my liking. I would like to be able to view inner city trains and railways as well. Also the maps don't provide the stops along the way so I might see it run through a city we would like to stop but it does not show any train stations along the route. I've also scoured Google Maps and Images trying to find this information to no avail. Any other suggestions?

      I'm sorry,

I'm sorry, no such map exists. For something like that, you would need the European Rail Timetable. The European Rail Timetable is a book with about 500 to 600 pages of detailed train schedules.

The book does also contain maps for each country but none that would show all train stations. There are thousands upon thousands of stations across Europe. A map reflecting all stations has not been created yet. In the European Rail Timetable, the stops/stations would only be shown within the timetable listings themselves. European Rail Timetables are issued monthly (however, rail schedules do not usually change that much, if at all, from month to month) and are the most comprehensive resource for rail schedules. You would purchase the European Rail Timetable here: www.europeanrailtimetable.eu.

There is no map I can think of that would combine city metro systems and the the full intercity rail network in Europe (or even an individual country's national rail network). However, Metro maps for European cities are all over the internet. Just do an image search for "Paris Metro" and you'll see tons of results.
