    Hi Samantha,

A connection from Nice to Chamonix involves 2 changes along the way; once in either Lyon or Bellegarde and then once in St. Gervais Les Bains. Due to construction, the segment from St. Gervais Les Bains to Chamonix would be by a bus, for which you would purchase tickets locally.

A connection from Chamonix to Paris would also involve taking a bus to get back to St. Gervais Les Bains, and you would purchase tickets for this bus locally. The part of the connection from St. Gervais Les Bains to Paris involves changing trains once in either Bellegarde or Annecy along the way.

You would purchase tickets for your trains by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com.

To access the connections from Nice to St. Gervais Les Bains, you would do separate searches for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search for trains from Nice to either Lyon or Bellegarde and then another search for separate trains from either Lyon or Bellegarde to St. Gervais Les Bains.

To purchase tickets from St. Gervais Les Bains to Paris, you can just do one search for the full route from St. Gervais Les Bains to Paris, rather than breaking it up.

Trains in France can be booked within 90 days of an intended date of departure.

  • Thanks!

I will be heading from Nice to Chamonix probably the second week of July.

So to reserve each ticket/train, my 3 routes that I would search to reserve would be:
    1) Nice > Bellegarde
    2) Bellegarde > St. Gervais Les Bains
    3) St. Gervais Les Bains > Chamonix (Via Bus: purchase ticket locally - no reservation)

Roughly, how long would this trip take in total?

Do you know how much the Bus tickets to Chamonix from St. Gervais Les Bains cost?

How can I find out when construction is completed, in case it is finished before I travel in July? What would the non-construction regular route be?

  • Hi Samantha,

Yes, you will purchase train tickets for travel from Nice to Bellegarde and Bellegarde to St Gervais Les Bains. You will purchase the bus ticket locally for St Gervais Les Bains to Chamonix. You can contact the French Tourism Board for approximate prices for the bus.

The trip should be roughly 10 hours with connections.

We do not know at this time when the construction should be completed, it has been going on for quite some time now. The route without construction is similar to what is being offered at this time; however instead of the bus from St Gervais Les Bains to Chamnoix this would be a train.
