Are there any other costs in addition to a railpass?

I'm looking at getting a RailEurope select pass for two youths in three countries. From the website, it appears that the only price for travel would be the price of the select pass. Will there be any other charges when we arrive in Europe, like prices of the tickets themselves or reservation costs?

    Hi Cori,

A rail pass covers the ticket costs on trains (day trains and night trains) operating within and between any country listed on the respective pass. When applicable, reservations are a supplementary cost to a railpass, just as they would be factored into the cost of individual point-to-point tickets. Therefore, a rail pass still often works out to be the most economical option for travelers taking multiple trains while in Europe that cover more substantial distances.

Reservations are required on all high-speed trains and night trains. Generally, high-speed trains connect most of the larger cities and more popular destinations in Western Europe. In Western Europe, most major cities are connected almost exclusively by high-speed trains. Therefore, it is likely that reservations will be required for many of your trips.

You can check reservation costs and make reservations by clicking on 'Book a Reservation for Your Pass' from the homepage of our website www.raileurope.com. There you would proceed to enter the cites you'd like to travel between for a particular trip, as well as preferred dates and times.

Most trains in Europe can only be reserved within 60 or 90 days of an intended date of departure. If your intended date of travel happens to fall outside of this time frame, then you would just enter a date within the next 60 or 90 days to get an idea of the reservation cost and view schedules when searching a route on our site.

Many trains can sell out quickly, so I would just recommend to book your reservations as soon as it becomes possible to do so.
