How the SNCF and Rail Europe cheat the consumer

I consider that the SNCF and RailEurope are dishonest. After buying a first class railpass for France I found that on most fast trains (TGV) it is impossible to buy a reservation, without which one cannot travel, to accompany the pass. This despite the fact that the trains are generally only half full. In other words they sell you a pass but then make it impossible to use it. Typically French.

  • Hi Ian,

When booking the passes through Rail Europe, we do recommend that you purchase your reservations to ensure that you can be guaranteed a seat on board the train. As SNCF only allots so many seats to passholders, it is best to purchase your reservations in advance. Reservations can be made 90 days prior to train departure.

If you would like, you can send us an email with your booking number and when you were trying to travel and we can look into this matter further for you. The email address is customercare@raileurope.com.

We regret any inconvenience this caused you while traveling and hope that we are able to answer any further questions for you.

    Thank you,
    Jen
