I’m Frustrated and disappointed

How to make reservations???

We are looking to use our Eurail passes in France and Italy in the coming week, but many trains we wish to take require reservations. We have contacted several agencies in Europe, and were on hold with Rail Europe for clear over an hour, and so far have concluded that we just have to go to a station on our day of departure and hope there are seats available. This seems absurd to me, as in a world as connected as ours there surely must be a way to make reservations online or over the phone. Does anyone know how we can do this??

  • Hi Aaron,

It is actually highly recommended that reservations be purchased in advance prior to departing for Europe whenever possible, especially for trains in France and Italy. High-speed trains in France and Italy do require reservations after all.

There may be some cases when the operator for a particular train does not enable it to be reserved from anywhere outside of Europe, in which case, you would have no choice but to try to purchase the reservations locally; however, that should not be an issue for reservable trains in France and Italy.

You would purchase reservations by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. Reservable trains in France and Italy can be booked once within 90 days of an intended date of departure. If your intended date of departure happens to fall outside of this time frame, you would just enter a date within the next 90 days to get an idea of the reservation cost and view schedules when searching the route on our website.

Please let us know if you have any questions with regard to specific trains/routes.
