I’m confused

How does European friend buy tickets?

We are meeting our Friend from France and traveling through France and Italy with her, she can not buy this pass because she lives in Europe, Will we be able to reserve seats together if we buy this France Italy pass and she buys some sort of different one???!! Just confused hope we can still travel together smoothly!

  • Hello Camille,
Europeans can book their own brand of passes it is called interrail. Now, in terms of reserving seats I would wait to do that when you are joining your friend in Europe.
If you do that in advance from North America you will probably not sit next to each others and most likely not even be on the same car...
    Have a great trip.

  • Ok thanks Fred! Also we are only there for 3 weeks so if we wait to book reservations until we get there there will be seats for us still? I thought i read that they fill up and can sell out thats why we have to book reservations?

  • If you already know the trains you will be taking together, I would make the reservations only for trains that can fill up fast (like TGV in France, AVE in Spain or Frecciarossa in Italy). When are you traveling? If it is during holidays in Europe then I would make reservations on all trains...
I have a cheat sheet for you: go to this page http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/poi...
input the pass you want to buy and check the price of reservations on the routes you will be taking. When you are ready you can book your pass and then buy all the reservations (for you and your friend) if you want. The system will not check that you have both passes at the time of booking but the train conductor will at the time of traveling ;)

  • Hi, thank you so much for the info! i went to this website and checked out buying the reservations for three people (myself, my husband and my European friend) the only thing im worried about is it asks you the country of residence for all 3 people and no European countries are listed so i would put canada for us but does it matter if i put a different country for my friend? And we are traveling last three weeks in June. Thanks!

  • The passports should be linked to the passes but not the reservations. the conductor will check that 2 eurail passes bought in Canada are associated with 2 Canadian passports. One interrail to one European passports but reservations can be bought anywhere really...
