    Hi Michelle,

It depends on if you purchased regular tickets for a train from Budapest to Prague or an actual rail pass.

If you purchased a regular ticket for a direct train from Budapest to Prague, then the reservation would've automatically been included.

If you purchased a rail pass that includes Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, then the reservation would be separate. On the direct trains from Budapest to Prague (EuroCity trains), reservations aren't required, but they are highly recommended.

For travel with a rail pass, you would purchase reservations by clicking the 'Seat Reservations' tab on our homepage (www.raileurope.com), entering a route, and indicating the type of rail pass with which you'll be traveling.

Direct trains from Budapest to Prague do run through Slovakia. If Slovakia is not included on your pass, you would be charged an additional supplement locally to compensate.

Otherwise, you can go with a connection that goes around Slovakia and involves changing trains once in Vienna along the way. However, to do this connection, you would need to have Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic included on your pass. On trains from Budapest to Vienna (Railjet or EuroCity trains) and Vienna to Prague (Railjet trains), reservations aren't required, but they are highly recommended. When purchasing passholder reservations for this option, you would just have to do a separate search for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search for trains from Budapest to Vienna and another search for connecting trains from Vienna to Prague.

Generally, all of these trains can be booked once within 90 days of an intended departure date.

  • The email states - "General Ticket
This is only a train ticket. Reservations when possible are separate and an additional cost. "
It has the train number #278 and the route shows Bratislava. I am just confused as to whether or not I need anything additional.

It sounds like you purchased a ticket. If that's the case, the reservation should've been included in your purchase. If you'd like to verify whether or not the reservation was included with your ticket purchase, you would have to call us, so we can take a look at your order. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600 or 1-847-916-1028. Our current hours are 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM CT Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM CT on Saturdays. I'm sorry, as we are not able to answer questions about specific orders over this forum.
