I have clients that want to travel oslo to Lillehammer to flam to Bergen. Would Norway in a nutshell work for them to do this?

I am trying to find the best option for my clients wanting to travel from Oslo to Lillehammer, Lillehammer to Flam, Flam to Bergen. Would the Norway in a Nutshell package work for them? If not what is my best option?

    Hi Pam,

Lillehammer is not part of the Norway in a Nutshell, but the rest of your clients' trip they could do as part of the Norway in a Nutshell. Your clients would take a direct train from Oslo up to Lillehammer, and then a rail connection from Lillehammer to Flåm would involve going back to Oslo first before continuing on. The travel from Oslo to Flåm and then on to Bergen would be a part of the Norway in a Nutshell.

First, your clients would take a train from Oslo up to Myrdal, where they would switch to the famous Flåm railway to Flåm. The rest of the Norway in a Nutshell trip would have them taking a ferry from Flåm to Gudvangen, a bus from Gudvangen to Voss, and then a train from Voss to Bergen.

You would purchase tickets for the train from Oslo to Lillehammer and then Lillehammer back to Oslo by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website.

For the travel from Oslo to Bergen via Flåm, you would purchase the 'Oslo-Voss-Bergen' option of the Norway in a Nutshell package. You would purchase the Norway in a Nutshell by clicking here http://agent.raileurope.com/rail-tick... after logging into our travel agent website. Also, you would have to be sure to choose the option 'Oslo-Voss-Bergen 1404' instead of 'Oslo-Voss-Bergen 1405', because the '1405' option is the one for the child rate.

With the Norway in a Nutshell, you would just purchase reservations for the train from Oslo to Myrdal. You would purchase reservations for the train from Oslo to Myrdal by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on our homepage (instead of 'Find Fares & Schedules'). When you go to purchase these reservations on our site, you will be prompted to enter the type of rail pass your clients will be traveling with; however, the Norway in a Nutshell is not an option you can choose there. Rest assured, you can just say that your clients will be traveling with a 'Eurail Norway Pass', a 'Eurail Scandinavia Pass', or a 'Eurail Global Pass' in order to be quoted the correct reservation fees and purchase the reservations. While your clients are on the train from Oslo to Myrdal, they would just show their Norway in a Nutshell pass and the reservations to the conductor, and that is all they would need.

Otherwise, there is a bus that runs from Lillehammer to Flåm taking about 9 hours in duration. Tickets for the bus would be purchased locally. In this case, it would be excessive to purchase any Norway in a Nutshell package just to travel from Flåm to Bergen, so your clients would purchase tickets for the ferry from Flåm to Gudvangen and the bus from Gudvangen to Voss locally upon arrival. You would, however, be able to purchase tickets for the train from Voss to Bergen under 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our website, as well as the tickets for the train from Oslo to Lillehammer.

Generally, trains in Norway can be booked within 90 days of an intended date of departure.

  • Hi Jeff. Why I can't buy the reservation online for the train from Myrdal to Flam?
