If I have a rail pass, do I still have to make a reservation everytime before I use the train?

I want to be able to be flexible about when I use the pass. Is every seat reserved/ If I don't make a reservation, will I have to wait for another scheduled train?

  • Hi Mel Martynn,

When traveling in most countries, reservations are required prior to boarding the trains. If you are traveling within Germany, Austria or Switzerland, you would not need a reservation. However, all highspeed, international and night trains will require reservations in advance of boarding the train.

Reservations can be purchased locally at the station, however, if you are traveling during high season space can be extremely limited on most trains.

You can visit our Rail Help section of our website to learn more about reservations by clicking on the following link: http://www.raileurope.com/rail-help/a...

I hope this information is helpful to you when planning your vacation.

    Thank you,
    Jen
