Is it possible to validate an Austria pass at Vienna airport train station?

We are flying into Vienna airport and need to get our Austria pass validated/activated.
Is it possible to do this at the Vienna airport train station?
Or can we have the pass validated/activated on the train by the attendant?

Yes, you should be able to validate a rail pass at any staffed railway station, including at the Vienna Airport. You should always have your pass validated prior to boarding any train.
    • Hello! I will arrive Wien on 25 May 6:50 am and go to Muenchen on the same day. I want to take EC1162 at 8:03. Could I active the eurail pass at the airport?
If yes, would you tell me the exactly location (e.g. counter) that I can validate the pass?
      Thank you so much!

      Hi Jessica,

Yes, you can validate your rail pass at the Vienna Airport. You would do so at the ticket counter by the train platforms.

The direct train from Vienna Airport to Munich is a Railjet train. On the Railjet, reservations are recommended as a supplement to the rail pass.

For travel with a rail pass, you would purchase the reservations to Munich by searching the route on our homepage (, checking the box that says ‘I have a rail pass’, and then indicating the type of rail pass with which you'll be traveling (i.e. a ‘Eurail Global Pass’). To purchase passholder reservations for the direct Railjet from Vienna Airport to Munich, you would actually just have to type 'Vienna' in the field for the departure city. When you pull up the results of your search, the departure station will be listed as Vienna Hbf (the main station in the city center), and the reservation document we issue you will also reflect Vienna Hbf as the departure station; however, rest assured you can still just board at the airport.

To ensure you choose the specific train you want, you can just cross-reference the train number and the arrival time into Munich. For your reference, the Railjet to Munich departs out of the Vienna Airport just 27 minutes before it is shown on our website to be departing from Vienna Hbf.
