    Hi Isabel,

The objective of a rail pass is to cover the ticket costs for trains running ‘inter-city’ between different cities within the country or countries included on the pass. With that being the case, a rail pass generally would not cover metro and public transit networks within cities.

Any rail pass that includes Portugal covers all trains operated by the Portuguese national rail network, including InterCity (IC), Alfa Pendular (AP), Interregional (IR), Urbanos, and regional trains.

InterCity (IC) and Alfa Pendular (AP) will require a seat reservation as a supplement to the rail pass. However, reservations for trains in Portugal are only able to be purchased locally at the CP offices in the stations.
