Would our German Rail Pass cover the Railjet train between Munich & Salzburg (with Salzburg being in Austria)?

We have German Railpasses and are wondering if we need to purchase a different ticket when using Railjet between Munich and Salzburg

    Hi James,

Any rail pass that includes Germany would cover rail travel to Salzburg from Germany (or from Salzburg to Germany for that matter). Therefore, you would be able to use your German Rail Pass to cover the ticket cost for a train from Salzburg to Munich.

In addition to the rail pass, reservations are highly recommended on trains between Salzburg and Munich (high-speed 'Railjet' or 'EuroCity' trains). Generally, you would be able to purchase reservations by clicking on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on the homepage of our website; however, the trains between Salzburg and Munich are not able to be booked there at this time. Since these trains aren't able be reserved on our website currently, you would call us at 1-800-622-8600 to purchase the reservations. We apologize for any inconvenience. These trains can only be reserved within 90 days of an intended date of departure.

  • So can I make a seat reservation for a Munich to Salzburg journey on railjet on DB site. I will be having a German Rail Pass.
