Last leg-Madrid to Lisbon

Are bikes allowed on the train from Madrid to Lisbon? Can it be free standing or does it need to be in a bike bag? If free standing then is A bike, a soft shell bike bag, and one piece of luggage an allowable amount of luggage?

    Hi Kelly,

The only train that runs between Madrid and Lisbon is the Lusitania night train. This train does not allow assembled bicycles on board. However, a bike can be taken on board any train if contained within a purpose-designed bike bag (measuring no more than 120cm x 90cm). A bike can fit in such a bag with the wheels and pedals detached and the handlebars parallel to the frame. There is no charge to travel with your bike in one of these bags.

You would purchase tickets for the night train from Madrid to Lisbon by searching the route under 'BOOK TRAIN TICKETS' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com.

This night train carries single compartments, double compartments, 4-berth compartments, and 2nd class seats. Due to an error, it may currently be the case that our website is only able to offer two of these accommodation types. If you're interested in one of the accommodation types that isn't shown, you would have to call us. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600. Our current hours are 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM CT Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM CT on Saturdays.

To view the type of compartment offered, you would click ‘Fare details’ after clicking on the fare itself.
