Luggage on AVE from Madrid to Barcelona

My daughter and I are traveling form Madrid to Barcelona December 10th. We have many suitcases/luggage 3 large, 2 small, 2 backpacks. We plan to travel 1st class where there is more room. Should we purchase an extra seat?

    Hi Susan,

I'm sorry, however, it is not possible to purchase a ticket for a seat that will not be occupied by an actual passenger.

In Europe, the only rail network that imposes weight limitations on luggage is the national rail network of Spain. The national rail network of Spain states that passengers can carry up to 3 pieces of luggage (per person), the sum of which may not exceed 290 cm, and the largest of the 3 items should not exceed 85 x 55 x 35 cm in height-width-depth. Also, the total weight of the 3 items should not exceed 25 kg.

  • You are likely to be better off sending the additional luggage separately by courier to Barcelona - we can help manage this for you should you wish. You leave the luggage at our locker store and there are couriers that can manage this for you - .
