My return to my European Roots!!

I'm looking to travel mid july (16th or 18th) into Zurich, visit Glarus, see Lichtenstein, come back to Lucerne for end of Jazz Festival, get to Geneva for summer festival(beginning of) then catch a train from Geneva to Barcelona... then do a drive around spain, and fly out of Madrid beginning of August. Is the train a good idea for all that.. .or just limit it to the Geneva to Barcelona leg? what's pricing? and is the schedule pretty open- or best to do it during the week? Thanks Hansjorg(yeah, real German, but have been in US my whole life! haha)

    Hi Hansjorg,

You can purchase tickets and check schedules by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com.

A connection from Zurich to Glarus involves changing trains once in Ziegelbruecke along the way. For this trip, you would piece together the connection by doing a separate search for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search for trains from Zurich to Ziegelbruecke and then another search for connecting trains from Ziegelbruecke to Glarus.

A connection from Glarus to Lucerne involves at least one train change in Pfäffikon along the way. To cover the train from Glarus to Pfäffikon, you can purchase open tickets from us from Glarus to Ziegelbruecke and Ziegelbrueke to Zurich. The train from Glarus to Pfäffikon is direct, so you would not actually get off the train in Ziegelbruecke. Additionally, even though you would have a ticket that reflects Zurich as the endpoint, you would just get off the train when it stops in Pfäffikon. For these routes, we would just issue open tickets. Therefore, when you do your search from Glarus to Ziegelbruecke and your search from Ziegelbruecke to Zurich for your intended date of travel, you can select any trains, and the tickets we issue would be valid to cover you on any train from Glarus to Pfäffikon that day.

Tickets for trains from Pfäffikon to Lucerne are only able to be purchased locally in Europe.

There are direct trains that will take you from Lucerne to Geneva.

A connection from Geneva to Barcelona takes at least 7.5 hours in duration and involves at least two train changes along the way; once in Valence and then once in Figueras. For this trip, you would once more piece together the connection by doing a separate search for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search for the part of the connection from Geneva to Valence, another search for connecting trains trains from Valence to Figueras, and another search for connecting trains from Figueras to Barcelona. If you are not able to find trains that are compatible with one another to complete this connection, then you would call us at 1-800-622-8600.

These trains can be booked within 90 days of an intended date of departure, with the exception of trains from Figueras to Barcelona, which can only be booked within 60 days of an intended date of departure.
