I’m confused

How can I book a night train reservation from Attnang-Puchheim (Austria) to Zurich with Eurail Select Pass for Austria & Germany and a Swiss Half Fare Card?

My husband and I want to take a night train from Attnang-Puchheim, Austria to Zurich, Switzerland in May. We have the Eurail 2 Country Pass for Austria & Germany and we also have the Swiss Half Fare Pass. I want to reserve a sleeper for the train, but I'm not sure how to best do that. I tried to reserve through Eurail, but, after contacting customer service, I was told I can't reserve through their website because I only have a pass for one of the countries for that trip.

I'm also wondering, because this train would depart in Austria, whether our Switzerland passes are even relevant for this train. We are actually traveling from Hallstatt, Austria to Grindelwald, Switzerland, but the night train portion of the trip is the only one we want to reserve. I contacted the Austrian railway OBB and it does sound like I can reserve through them. But I'm worried that I might actually be buying a ticket for this train instead of just reserving a sleeper. If I could get some clarification on this that would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Rachel,

Generally, you would be able to purchase the reservations by indicating that you'll be traveling with any rail pass that does cover the full route (i.e. a 'Eurail Global Pass'); however, the night train from Attnang-Puchheim to Zurich isn't able to be booked on our website at this time. Instead, you would have to call us in order to purchase passholder reservations for this train. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600.

In addition to the reservations, we should also be able to issue the half-price ticket to go along with your Swiss Half Fare Card (for the portion of this route once it crosses over into Switzerland) when you call us.

To be covered from Attnang-Puchheim to the Austrian/Swiss border, you would show the conductor your Eurail Select Pass that includes Austria.

To be covered from the Austrian/Swiss border to Zurich, you would show the conductor your Swiss Half Fare Card and the half-price tickets we issue.

You would also show the conductor your reservation for the train itself.
