Trying to book a ticket from Oslo to Bergen but the site is telling me that my ticket didn't include a seat reservation. How can I get a reservation?

I am trying to book a ticket from Oslo to Bergen, Norway but when I got to checkout it told me that my ticket did not include a seat reservation and that it is necessary to make one. How do I do this? It seems to imply that I have to go through the local railway but I don't know how to do this.

    Hi Sam,

The trains from Oslo to Bergen do now require reservations in addition to the ticket that we would issue you for the route.

You can actually purchase the reservation by doing another search as though you'll be traveling with a rail pass, after you add the point-to-point ticket to your shopping cart/itinerary. This procedure wouldn't apply for most trains throughout Europe but would work in this case,

Therefore, you would purchase the point-to-point ticket for this route (Oslo to Bergen) by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage, www.raileurope.com.

After adding the ticket to your shopping cart/itinerary, you would click 'Add A Trip' to go back to the homepage and purchase your reservation. To do this, you would actually click on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on the homepage instead of 'Find Fares & Schedules'. Even though you will not actually be traveling with a rail pass, you can just indicate here that you'll be traveling with a 'Eurail Norway Pass' or a 'Eurail Scandinavia Pass' when prompted. This is just so you'll be able to purchase the reservation that you'll need to go along with your ticket.

You would then locate the same train you purchased your ticket for and add it to your cart, as well. You would then have both the ticket and the corresponding reservation in your cart, and you can proceed to checkout.

Actually, Sam, this should be fixed now, and the reservations should now be automatically included with any ticket purchase for the trains from Oslo to Bergen. Therefore, you shouldn't have to follow the procedure I just described above to get the reservation. If you start from the beginning and go to purchase a regular ticket from Oslo to Bergen now (under 'Find Fares & Schedules' on our homepage), the reservation should be included automatically.

You would know if a reservation is being included with your ticket by clicking on 'View' (listed with the ticket cost) and referring to where it says 'Ticket Flexibility'. If it lists the ticket and the reservation separately under 'Ticket Flexibility' (with the ticket being 85% refundable and the reservation being non-refundable and non-exchangeable), then you would know that both the ticket and a corresponding reservation would be issued as separate documents.

After you add the ticket to your shopping cart/itinerary, it should also say something similar to "Reserved: You have a reserved seat on this train".

    I apologize for any confusion.
