One week travel - Gatwick Airport, Croydon, Wigan North, London, Paris, London, Winchester

We are arriving at Gatwick and planning to take the train/underground to hotel in Croydon; next day train from Euston Station to Wigan North; back to London, one day trip to Paris, back to London and then to Winchester within a week.
Would a British Rail pass (if purchased) give us coverage for the various times we use the underground during that week? Also does a Brit Rail Pass cover our trip to Paris or do we have to purchase another ticket

    Hi Barb,

The BritRail Pass/BritRail England Pass would not cover the London Underground. The objective of a rail pass is to cover the ticket costs for trains running between different cities within the country or countries included on the pass. Generally, rail passes do not cover metro systems in European cities.

The BritRail Pass/BritRail England Pass is also not valid on the Eurostar between London and Paris. To take the Eurostar, you would need to purchase an additional ticket.

You would purchase tickets between London and Paris by searching the route under 'BOOK TRAIN TICKETS' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. The Eurostar can sell out quickly, so it is recommended that the tickets be purchased as soon as possible. Generally, the Eurostar can be booked 6 to 9 months in advance of a departure.

If you will not be traveling to Scotland and/or Wales, then there is no need to purchase the BritRail Pass, and you could instead purchase the BritRail England Pass. The BritRail England Pass covers travel solely within England, which is all that's necessary for trains from London to Wigan and London to Winchester, as well as the Gatwick Express.

The Gatwick Express are the express trains between the Gatwick Airport and the city of London (the Victoria station). The Gatwick Express departs frequently throughout the day and the ride takes about 30-35 minutes.

For the BritRail England Pass, you would click here: https://www.raileurope.com/pass/britrail-england-pass-5893.

On trains from London to Wigan and London to Winchester, reservations are not necessary, so the BritRail England Pass is all you would need to board. For planning purposes, you can use the route search feature on our homepage just to view schedules from London to Wigan and London to Winchester.
