Taking the night train from Paris to Venice but confused by train descriptions. Do we have to share with strangers?

My husband and I are traveling from Paris to Venice in August and are wondering if the 1st class ticket for the Thello overnight train has coed sleeper cabins, or if we will be separated and have to sleep with strangers. When I add the tickets to my cart they are described as Comfort- Coach 94, Seat 043 and Seat 043, are these seats in a sleeper cabin? This is our 1st time traveling to Europe and are just a little confused by the train descriptions...we're trying to decide between taking the train or flying.

    Hi Jamie,

If the number of people in your party does not equal the capacity of a particular sleeping compartment, then you would end up sharing with other passengers. Therefore, if you have 2 passengers in your party and you choose a double compartment, you can rest assured you would end up booked together in same compartment. Gender does not matter if the number of people in your party occupies the entire compartment type you choose.

For sleeping compartments on night trains, it is typically the case that the class of service is determined by how many people a particular compartment sleeps. Generally, single and double compartments are considered 1st class, while triple compartments. 4-berth couchettes, and 6-berth couchettes are all considered 2nd class. Therefore, if you wish to reserve one compartment for as many as 3-6 passengers, then you would just have to expect that it would be considered 2nd class. In that sense, you can often just disregard class of service on night trains.

The Thello Night train does also have Deluxe class offered for their single and double compartments. The Deluxe class is a step up from their regular single and double compartments. With Deluxe class, the primary distinction is that they have a shower and toilet right in the compartment, as well as general comfort level.

You can purchase tickets for the night train from Paris to Venice by searching the route under 'Book Train Tickets' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. For overnight trains, you would view the type of compartments being offered by clicking on ‘Fare details’ after clicking on the corresponding costs.

Along with the 'Deluxe' class compartments I mentioned, the Thello Night train from Paris to Venice carries single compartments, double compartments, triple compartments (T3), 4-berth couchettes (T4), and 6-berth couchettes (T6). Due to an error, it may currently be the case that our website is only able to offer a maximum of two of these accommodation types. If you're interested in one of the accommodation types that isn't shown, you would have to email us at customercare@raileurope.com.

Generally, the Thello Night train can be booked once within 120 days of an intended departure date.
