Mount Pilatus Summer Toboggan question, does the pass cover the gondola ride down to Frakmuntegg?

I'm looking to go up Pilatus and purchase the "round trip" pass. I would also like to do the summer toboggan, but it's unclear from the website if the "round trip" pass covers the gondola ride down to Frakmuntegg or if you have to purchase another gondola ride to get there. Can someone please help answer this question?

    Hi Evan,

The pass for Mount Pilatus does cover the cog train from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, the cable from Pilatus Kulm to Fräkmüntegg and the gondola from Fräkmüntegg to Kriens. This pass can be purchased here: https://www.raileurope.com/activities....

  • Hi Jeff,

Thank you for the insight! If we take the cable from Pilatus Kulm to Frakmuntegg, can we take it back up to Pilatus Kulm and then back down to Alpnachstad? I have a rental car I was wanting to park at Alpnachstad and come back down the same way. If that's not possible, however, is there a bus/boat at Kriens we could take back to Alpnachstad where our car is at?

    • Hi Jeff,

Just to clarify, I'm assuming we could do 1 of two options then: (1) Take the cog from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, then purchase gondola tickets to go down and back from Frakmuntagg for the Toboggan. Then, take the cog back down to Alpachstad when we're finished up there; or (2) Taking the gondola from Kriens, stopping in Frakmuntagg for the Toboggan, going up to Pilatus Kulm, and then either taking the same gondola back down or the cog train (which we would then need to bus/boat back over to Kriens).

Also, I understand I can purchase tickets online for Pilatus and get them shipped to me. Can I alternatively buy my pass there at the ticket station or will they sell out ahead of time?

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.

I'm not exactly clear about what you intend to do. With the first option, you said you would "go down and back" between Pilatus Kulm and Fräkmüntegg; however, the pass we offer for Mount Pilatus does not allow backtracking unless it's all the way up one way and then all the way down the same way. Therefore, you could use your pass to ascend via the cog railway from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, but you would then have to choose between going all the way back down the same way (back to Alpnachstad) or going down the other way (via Fräkmüntegg and Kriens). If you ascend via the cog railway from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, you would not be able to use our pass to do a separate round-trip on the Pilatus Kulm-Fräkmüntegg cable car and then still come back down via the cog railway back to Alpnachstad; it has to be one or the other.

Based on how I understand the second option you listed, our pass would cover you; it just may be more than you need, which is why I would still recommend purchasing the tickets locally. This is because our pass for Mount Pilatus also includes a steamboat between Lucerne and Alpnachstad, as well as a bus between Kriens and Lucerne.
