please help traveling from madrid to barcelona

I want to make reservations from Madrid, Spain to Barcelona, Spain. I'm staying around Plaza Mayor. Can you explain how I go about this? I'm looking to take a train from the plaza Mayor area.

Not sure I understand the difference between rail ticket and train ticket. Please help.

    Hi Keely,

In a city with numerous rail stations, the station a train arrives into depends on the particular region or direction you are coming from, and the station a train departs from depends on the particular region or direction you are heading to. Therefore, you would generally not be able to choose the station you depart from or arrive into for a particular trip. When you do a schedule search on our website, the results will display the stations you would be departing from and arriving into for a particular set of cities.

There are only two main stations in Madrid: the Puerta de Atocha station and the Chamartin station.

Trains from Madrid to Barcelona depart from the Puerta de Atocha station. You would purchase tickets and check schedules by clicking on 'Find Fares & Schedules' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com.

Generally, trains in Spain can only be booked within 60 days of an intended date of departure. If your intended travel happens to fall outside of this time frame, you would just enter an earlier date, within the next 60 days, to get an idea of the ticket costs and view schedules when searching the route on our site.

Please note, we do not have information regarding the proximity of rail stations to specific locations within a city, such as landmarks or hotels. I would recommend that you contact your hotel for information regarding the distance from stations and also for information regarding transportation from points within a city directly to your hotel.

For more information about the Madrid Puerta de Atocha station and even a link to a Google map of its location, you can refer to the following link: http://www.raileurope.com/europe-trav....

We only have similar pages and information for some of the more major stations in Europe.
