Question about BritRail Spirit of Scotland Pass, travel before 9:15am not being allowed

Hi, We are looking at purchasing the Spirit of Scotland Rail pass but it states not for travel before 9:15 am Monday to Friday. We are flying home on Friday July 13 and have to be at Gatwick airport by 6:30 am. What would be the earliest time we could use the train pass to get back to Gatwick before the cut off of 9:15 am. Can we catch a train that leaves at 2 or 3 am and still have our valid train pass to use to back to the airport? Thanks

    Hi Lori,

I'm sorry, however, the BritRail Spirit of Scotland Pass is only valid within Scotland and to/from the cities of Carlisle and Berwick-upon-Tweed in England. Therefore, this pass would not be valid to get you to London or the Gatwick Airport. Only the BritRail Pass is valid in both Scotland and England.

It is true that the BritRail Spirit of Scotland Pass is not valid on trains departing before 9:15am, Monday-Friday*. The BritRail Pass does not have the same restriction.

Service generally does not start until 5 or 6am. The restriction in question applies only to the time when service starts (at around 5 or 6am) until 915am, Monday-Friday. Technically, I believe the pass would be valid on a train departing at 2am or 3am in the morning, but you're not really going to find any trains departing at that time.

*Note: This restriction does not apply on the following routes: Glasgow Queen Street - Oban/Fort William/Mallaig, Inverness - Kyle /Wick/Thurso, Glasgow Central – Stranraer, Caledonian Sleeper Seated portion departing Edinburgh 0450, Glasgow Queen Street Low Level 0548 arriving Fort William at 0955 (reservations required). Direct services from Lockerbie to Carlisle, Carstairs, Motherwell or Glasgow Central.
