Granada to Seville & Madrid to Malaga

Rail Pass?Wife and I will need to train from Granada to Seville on July 11, and then from Madrid to Malaga on July 16. Does it make sense for each of us to get a Rail Pass for these trips?

    Hi,

If your only trips are from Granada to Seville and Madrid to Malaga, then it would not be advised to purchase a rail pass. For just those 2 trips, your best option would just be to purchase regular tickets.

You would purchase tickets by searching a route under 'BOOK TRAIN TICKETS' on the homepage of our website, www.raileurope.com. Generally, trains in Spain can only be booked within 90 days of an intended departure date. Since your intended travel falls outside of this time frame, you can use a date some time within the next 90 days to get an idea of ticket costs in the meantime.

For the past several years, there has been continuous construction on the rail line just outside Granada. During this time, trains have stopped operating as direct service all the way into Granada. Travelers heading to Granada take the train as far as Antequera, where they are switched to a bus that will take them into Granada. The buses are synchronized with the train arrivals, so the transfer is made easy.

When you pull up the results of your Granada-Seville search, our website will display departures for trains identified as direct trains. However, you would actually be on a bus up until Antequera. Rest assured, if you purchase tickets for one of these listings identified as direct trains, the tickets we issue would still be honored.

  • Thank you Jeff! Since we are going one way, from Granada to Seville, would we first have to take a bus to Antequera and then board our train?

    • Hi Jeff - As a follow up, we are traveling from Granada to Seville on July 12 (Thursday). Evidently, it is too early to book rail tickets but I am trying to find out what time trains will run that day. I searched the schedule for Thursdays in May, which did provide results, and it appears that there is a train that leaves on Thursdays at 8:45 and arrives at 12:07, and another that leaves 11:24 and arrives at 14:43. Is it safe to assume that these times will be available for Thursday, July 12?

The schedules should be the same once released. Generally, schedules don't fluctuate that much throughout the year, if at all.

All options might not display yet for your travel date. We expect all departures will become available to book at some point within the next few weeks, so please continue to check periodically.
