I’m frustrated

Reservation with Pass just as Expensive as Ticket?

I have a france-italy 5 day pass and I am planning on traveling from paris to avignon. When I look at the reservation fee it's 127 Euros which is just as expensive as a normal ticket and is very surprising. Am I doing something wrong in the reservation process or is the reservation actually as expensive as a ticket?

    Hi Savannah,

    This messageboard services the United States-based seller of European tickets and passes for North American countries. Our products are sold in U.S. dollars on www.raileurope.com or www.raileurope.com.mx and Canadian dollars on www.raileurope.ca. We do not sell any products in Euros, and we are generally not able to sell to residents of countries outside of North America, due to local restrictions.

    To check reservation costs for passholder on our website, you would click on 'Book your Rail Pass Reservations' on the homepage (instead of 'Find Fares & Schedules', which would be for regular tickets). If the price that displays for a train is the same as the price for a regular ticket, then it is possible that the passholder fares have sold out on that train. The passholder fares on trains in France do sell out very quickly, so it would be recommended that the reservations be booked as soon as possible (trains in France can be booked once within 90 days of an intended departure date).

    To ensure that you're being quoted the reservation fees for passengers traveling with the Eurail France-Italy Pass, you would click 'View' listed with the cost when you pull up the results of your search. You would then refer to where it says 'Ticket Flexibility'. Underneath 'Ticket Flexibility', you may see 3 options: 'Non Flexible', 'Semi Flexible' and 'Fully Flexible. You would click 'Read More' next to each of these options until you see the fare titled 'TGV: French Day Train Passholder' or something similar. Generally, this rate is found under the 'Semi Flexible' option.

    If you do not see this as an option, then it is possible that all of the passholder fares are completely sold out on the train you are looking at, as I mentioned above. If that is the case and you wish to verify the availability of that train, you would have to call us at 1-800-622-8600. If you need to take a specific train and the passholder fares turn out to be sold out, then you would have to purchase regular point-to-point tickets to take that train. A yellow box in which it says 'These Are Train Tickets' might appear after you've clicked on 'View' when the passholder fares have sold out.
