Are reservations required for Stockholm to Myrdal, Myrdal to Oslo, Helsinki to Pannainen, Oslo to Gothenburg or Copenhagen, & Umea to Stockholm?

If I obtain a Scandinavian rail pass second class how much more will I likely I have to pay for two reserved tickets from Stockholm to Myrdal on June 28 and from Myrdal to Oslo on June 20? I also will travel from Helsinki to Pannainen in Finland and from Oslo to either Gothenburg or Copenhagen and Umea to Stockholm. Do those trips require reservations?

    Hi Robert,

For travel with a rail pass, you would check reservation costs and purchase reservations by clicking the 'Seat Reservations' tab on our homepage (www.raileurope.com), entering a route, and indicating the type of rail pass with which you'll be traveling (i.e. a 'Eurail Scandinavia Pass').

For the Eurail Scandinavia Pass, you would click here: https://www.raileurope.com/rail-ticke....

    Stockholm to Myrdal

A connection from Stockholm to Myrdal takes about 12 hours and involves changing trains once in Oslo en route. Trains from Stockholm to Oslo (SJ High Speed trains) and trains from Oslo to Myrdal both would require reservations in addition to the pass. When checking reservations for this trip, you would just piece together the connection by doing a separate search for each segment. Therefore, you would do one search for trains from Stockholm to Oslo and then another search for connecting trains from Oslo to Myrdal.

Generally, trains from Stockholm to Oslo can be reserved within 90-180 days of an intended date of departure, while trains from Oslo to Myrdal can only be reserved within 90 days of an intended date of departure.

    Myrdal to Oslo

The trains from Myrdal back to Oslo require reservations in addition to the rail pass. The ride from Myrdal to Oslo takes just under 5 hours. Generally, reservable trains in Norway can be booked once within 90 days of an intended date of departure.

    Helsinki to Pännäinen

Trains from Helsinki to Pännäinen are IC (InterCity) trains that require reservations in addition to the rail pass. The ride from Helsinki to Pännäinen takes about 3.5 hours. Generally, reservable trains in Finland can only be booked within 60 days of an intended date of departure.

    Oslo to Gothenburg

Reservations are not necessary on the direct trains from Oslo to Gothenburg. Therefore, the rail pass is all you would need to board. The ride from Oslo to Gothenburg takes just under 4 hours. You can still view schedules by doing a search on our homepage.

    Oslo to Copenhagen

A connection from Oslo to Copenhagen takes 7.5 to 8.5 hours in duration and involves at least one train change in Gothenburg along the way. Reservations are not necessary, or even accepted, on the trains from Oslo to Gothenburg and Gothenburg to Copenhagen, so the rail pass is all you would need to board.

You can view schedules from Oslo to Gothenburg on our site, but schedules for the direct trains from Gothenburg to Copenhagen are not able to be viewed there. Therefore, if you'd like to inquire about schedules for the direct trains from Gothenburg to Copenhagen, you would call us. We can be reached at 1-800-622-8600. Our current hours are 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM CT Monday to Friday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM CT on Saturdays.

Another option would involve one more train change in Malmö right before you cross over to Copenhagen. Unlike the direct trains from Gothenburg to Copenhagen, the trains from Gothenburg to Malmö (SJ High Speed trains) do require reservations in addition to the pass. When you go to book the reservations from Gothenburg to Malmö on our site, you can also view the schedules from Oslo to Gothenburg and Malmö to Copenhagen.

Generally, trains from Gothenburg to Malmö can be reserved within 90-180 days of an intended departure date.

    Umeå to Stockholm

From Umeå to Stockholm, there are SJ High Speed trains during the day and there is a direct overnight train. Both of these options would require reservations in addition to the rail pass. Generally, these trains can be reserved within 90-180 days of an intended departure date.
